About Me

I’m Jen, Registered Social Worker and Author of Making It To Monday an Amazon best selling book! This emotional memoir chronicles the road to recovery following my son’s medical crisis and diagnosis that changed the course of our lives forever.

The book explains the strength in vulnerability and shows the powerful potential we all have within ourselves to create joy and happiness in our lives, even through the chaos and darkness.

I have worked in Clnical Social Work for over a decade and specialize in psychotherapy treating anxiety, trauma, caregiver stress and developing positive mindset and self esteem.

The evening of January 25, 2018, was mundane. Boring, even. I put my baby and toddler to bed and began the typical nighttime routine of a tired parent. I didn’t know that the next day, my whole world would explode.

This book chronicles the weeks and months that followed that fateful day. I’d never felt more emotion. I’d never felt more alone, or more exhausted. And as odd as it might sound, I’d also never felt more loved. I’d never realized the depths of my strength.

Why I WRote This Book

I wrote Making it to Monday when I needed the camaraderie, empathy, and guidance of others who had walked a similar path of challenge and strife and it did not exist. Despite my personal support network, I found myself wishing for something more tangible, something in-depth and personal that I could turn to for connection. A book that was honest about the dark times, and explained that through that darkness is opportunity to become light. A story I could cheer for and see myself in—to give myself hope for the future.

I hope this book is that for you.

I have learned that although I can feel pain, anguish, fear, and worry in deeper ways than I could have imagined, I can also feel love, happiness, joy, and relief in deeper ways too. That’s the interesting thing about this experience – the intensity of the darkness helped me to appreciate the light.

Reviews

Jennifer Nunes novel is a wonder. As I read each chapter I felt like I was standing beside her experiencing the anxieties, the highs and lows, the worry of wanting everything to be o.k. The relief I felt when we got to Monday surprised me only to realize this journey was far from over. I recommend this book to anyone who has felt the roller coaster of life try to break them down and realized they can emerge on the other side stronger and filled with hope!

Josie MacLean

Jennifer is able to summarize, compartmentalize and identify the emotional fall out that comes with an infant medical crisis. She relies on her training, but what quickly comes very clear to hear, and the readers is basic instinct, maternal feelings and personality tendencies that overpower and influence her education and career experiences. It all collides together in a well documented real life story of looking at the positives, finding joy in the little things, and living life to the fullest despite the unexpected ways life takes you.

I was captivated by this raw, powerful, beautiful, and heartfelt story of Jen and her family. She writes with such vulnerability that I found myself riding each wave with her and celebrating her triumphs as they happened. This book is a must read for anyone, but especially those going through adversity, as it is an extraordinary account of one family’s journey through crisis and triumph.

Nikita D’Souza

You will have to remind yourself to take breaths as you flow through the pages. Jen’s ability to put her experience into words was completely vivid and illuminated – it was as though I was a fly on the wall in each setting. I found myself re-reading sentences to ensure that I didn’t miss absorbing any detail, smiling at Jen’s ability to include her quirky personality in such a traumatic occurrence of events; crying as she outlines the heart-aching thoughts that ran through her mind as she held Dominic at the most devastating moments; and feeling my nails dig into my hands as I made a fist and waiting in anticipation of what information was going to be revealed at each medical meeting.
